The Murder of Terry Wayne Lewis

Winston County lies just southeast of the Shoals. Its county seat of Double Springs is a small out of the way hamlet some 65 miles from Killen.

Eight minutes before sunset on Monday, March 27rh, Winston County school employee Terry Wayne Lewis and his wife were traveling on County Road 18 just north of Double Springs. According to a local law enforcement officer, the couple encountered a vehicle with the driver slumped over the wheel.

If Terry Lewis was known for anything, his friends said he never missed an opportunity to aid others. It would have been second nature for the 40 year-old father of five to have stopped to offer assistance.

Details at this point are sketchy, but it's currently being reported that, when approached by Lewis, Christian Daniel Modas of Killen roused himself, stabbed Lewis, then ran over the good Samaritan twice. One officer who observed Christian shortly after the event stated that the 30 year-old Modas "just looked evil."

Christian Modas, whose most current verified address is Bridge Road, is currently being held in the Winston County Jail on bond of one million dollars. At his upcoming arraignment, the Killen man and his legal representation will be allowed to ask for a reduction in the bond.

Sympathies to both families involved in this tragedy.
